About this Short Film
Our Japanese Holiday is a heartwarming and empowering coming-of-age story centred on Belle and Charlie, twins living with disabilities who are on the brink of adulthood. For their milestone 18th birthday, their mother surprises them with the gift of a lifetime—a holiday to Japan. In a profound gesture of trust, she announces that they are old enough to embark on this journey entirely by themselves. When the twins excitedly share the news at school, they are met with sheer disbelief from their classmates, who can't comprehend how they will manage international travel without supervision. Undeterred by the doubts of their peers, Belle and Charlie dive headfirst into the planning process, meticulously organising every detail of their itinerary together. Defying the scepticism of their classmates, the twins plan and execute an unforgettable adventure, ultimately proving that independence has no limits. When they return home and present a slideshow of their incredible trip to their class, the initial scepticism of their peers transforms into absolute admiration. Deeply impressed by the twins' independence and organisational skills, their classmates ask Belle and Charlie to plan a holiday for them —a challenge the twins are more than happy to accept, officially cementing their roles as the leaders of their own journeys.
