About this Short Film

Going Up tells the story of Alessio, a Year 8 student from Cecil Hills High School who has developed a deep passion and impressive knowledge of elevators. What may seem like an everyday part of life to many people is a fascinating world of engineering, design and discovery for Alessio. Alessio enjoys exploring new and old lifts, filming his experiences and noticing the unique features that make each elevator different. He is fascinated by the mechanics behind lifts, including hydraulic and traction systems, as well as elevators that allow him to see and hear the movement and operation around him. Through his curiosity and attention to detail, Alessio shares his knowledge and shows others the incredible expertise that can grow from following a passion. This short documentary celebrates Alessio’s strengths, interests and unique way of seeing the world, reminding us that every person has something valuable to share.
