He’s a 12-year-old with a story that shines in its own unique way. He loves, he plays, he learns just like any other child. Surrounded by friends, his world is filled with joy, love and endless possibilities. But the one who knows him best is his mother.
He’s my son. The doctors diagnosed him with Down syndrome, but anyway we mostly welcome him—not as a Down syndrome son but as a normal kid. We treat him. She says yes, he’s Down syndrome, but he is not defined by limitations; he is defined by his abilities, and his school sees it too, embracing who he truly is.
He is not actually a special‑needs child. Actually, we are not treating him as special‑needs. He always works with the normal kids in the classroom. He learns everything related to the normal things. He does maths, he does science, he does sports with the same kids in the classroom. Even when we go into society it didn't feel like he's different. We all treat him as a normal child.
When we begin to understand children like Hesara, when we see their strengths instead of their differences and allow them to grow in a world built with love and acceptance—

At our school we are very happy to take students with different learning needs, and young Heser has been one of those students who's been with us now for five, six years. He's a great person and he's very welcomed by all the other students. We offer a facility where children are kind, children are joyful, and children take care of each other. I'm so happy that we have several children who are there with different learning needs who are welcomed into our community. They don't just live in the world, they make it more beautiful.
Hisara is one of many waiting to shine. These special gifts from God are very talented and very special for us. Even in my family—the dad, two sisters and he—are moving together. They have a very nice bond with each other. They are helping each other. They are doing everything together. And even these wonderful children are giving us love and care. Whenever we are going I can see how he is interacting, joining with the other kids, and they are very lovely. I believe actually this is a gift from God for us. Every child is special. Give them a chance to shine.
