About this Short Film
Lester Banda’s The Last Stone (Malawi, 2023) is a short film presented in the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival. It explores themes of perception, prejudice and the push for inclusion through a young adult viewpoint. The film invites audiences to think about determination, group dynamics, and the stigma that people with physical disability often face. Imagery and motifs such as hunters and snakes appear as symbolic elements, while the village setting hints at community pressures and possibilities for change. Warm and attentive, this work sits comfortably within the festival’s aim to showcase the abilities, achievements and everyday realities of people with disability.
