About this Short Film
"I Am Part of the Global Leader" by Mathews Kumwenda (Malawi, 2019) is a concise, thought-provoking short that explores achievement, work and independence through the experience of an adult amputee who uses a wheelchair. The film considers employment and business challenges and successes, and celebrates individual determination and professional identity. With assured visual storytelling, it contributes to the Focus on Ability programme by highlighting the abilities and ambitions of people with disability rather than limiting them to hardship. A clear, humane portrait, it will resonate with audiences interested in disability, inclusion and the everyday realities of pursuing work and leadership.
